Reservoir Link wins first carbon capture contract in Malaysia
By Abbas Nazil
Reservoir Link Energy Bhd has secured its first carbon capture and storage contract through its 60%-owned subsidiary, Reservoir Link Solutions Sdn Bhd, marking a strategic expansion into the low-carbon energy sector.
The contract, awarded by Hibiscus Oil & Gas Malaysia Limited, covers the PM3 CAA Carbon Capture and Storage Project and will run for two years.
Under the agreement, Reservoir Link Solutions will provide independent third-party subsurface review and technical assurance services, evaluating workflows, data inputs, assumptions, and modeling methodologies.
The assignment also includes technical analysis and interpretation, reviewing final recommendations, and offering practical, cost-effective solutions to mitigate identified gaps or risks in the CCS study.
This award represents a significant milestone for Reservoir Link as it diversifies its technical capabilities and service offerings into carbon capture and storage, a growing global mechanism for reducing carbon dioxide emissions through capture, transportation, and permanent underground storage.
Executive Deputy Chairman Thien Chiet Chai stated that the contract reflects the Group’s expanding expertise in subsurface technical services and aligns with Malaysia’s ambitions for a lower-carbon energy future.
He emphasized that CCS is expected to become a key market in the coming years, with potential to create long-term value while supporting emissions reduction and energy security.
Reservoir Link’s involvement demonstrates its commitment to supporting clean energy technologies while continuing to provide high-value solutions to Malaysia’s upstream oil and gas sector.
The company reiterated its strategic focus on both conventional oil and gas projects and emerging low-carbon opportunities to drive sustainable growth for shareholders.
The project positions Reservoir Link to capture future CCS opportunities and establishes the Group as a credible player in the carbon management sector.
By delivering expertise in technical assurance and subsurface evaluation, the company aims to contribute to Malaysia’s broader energy transition and promote sustainable industrial practices.
As CCS gains global importance, Reservoir Link’s successful engagement with Hibiscus Oil & Gas highlights the growing role of private companies in facilitating low-carbon energy solutions and advancing sustainable industry initiatives in Southeast Asia.
The contract underscores the company’s strategy of leveraging technical knowledge to support decarbonization efforts, helping Malaysia meet long-term climate goals while fostering innovation in energy infrastructure.
