A heavy downpour on Tuesday destroyed the newly completed Kugbo bus and taxi terminal in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) just hours before it was set to begin operations.
Constructed by Planet Project Limited, the terminal is one of several built by the company, including those in Mabushi and Central District Area.
The storm, which began around 3:30 pm, blew off the terminal’s roof, scattering debris across the busy Abuja–Nyanya–Keffi expressway and causing a traffic gridlock
.
Mr. Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to the FCT Minister, confirmed that the windstorm also caused minor damage to the Nyanya pedestrian bridge and nearby buildings. Preliminary reports indicate no injuries or vehicle damage.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has ordered the deployment of security personnel to the site and immediate repairs to restore order and traffic flow.
