Lagos seals Lekki property over illegal borehole drilling

By Awyetu Asabe Hope

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has sealed a property in Lekki over illegal and unregulated borehole drilling.

The affected building, Kelly Court in NICON Town, was shut following complaints of environmental violations, including improper wastewater disposal.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the drilling was carried out by an unlicensed operator on a drainage setback, causing environmental damage and posing health risks through the discharge of untreated wastewater.

The government described the act as a breach of environmental laws and warned that violators risk sanctions and prosecution.

Residents were urged to comply with proper wastewater management practices as part of efforts to protect public health and infrastructure.
