Police arrest 207 waste pickers in Abuja, charge 196 in court

The Nigeria Police has detained 207 Waste Pickers who were arrested during a crackdown at different parts of the Federal Captal Territory, Abuja.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Police Command, Mr. Haruna G. Garba, at a press conference he addressed in Abuja.

The Police boss, who outlined the recent achievements of his officers and men, also disclosed that 196 of the detained waste pickers have already been charged in court.

He said the police reported other notable successes, including the arrest of a suspected armed robber involved in “one chance” crimes, the recovery of a stolen vehicles, the apprehension of a suspect with dry leaves believed to be Indian-hemp (Cannabis Sativa), and the arrest of a wanted kidnapper.

The Commissioner mentioned that various other crimes, including cases of male/female organ disappearance, were addressed, along with raids on criminal activities.

Mr Garba reiterated his unwavering commitment to working closely with residents to combat crime in all its forms within the Federal Capital Territory.
