Youths in Mabudi, headquarters of Langtang South Local Government Area, on Wednesday protested persistent water scarcity in the community, warning they could boycott future elections if the situation is not urgently addressed.
The protesters marched through the area wearing T-shirts with the inscription, “No Water, No Vote,” and carried placards demanding immediate access to potable water.
A youth leader, Nanlir Gambo, said residents were tired of depending on unsafe water sources and accused politicians of neglecting the community after elections.
He added that the shortage had placed heavy burdens on households, especially women and children who trek long distances in search of water.
Responding, the Chief Press Secretary to the council chairman, Butko Iliya, said the local government had been supplying water to communities through tankers since the dry season began.
Meanwhile, the Plateau State Ministry of Water Resources and Energy said it had commenced immediate and long-term interventions to address the crisis.
The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Lohnan V. Gambo, said a geophysical survey had begun in Mabudi and neighbouring communities as part of efforts to provide a lasting solution to the water shortage.
