Oyo State undertakes dredging of eight rivers and streams

The Oyo State Government has taken proactive measures to address the issue of flooding by dredging eight additional flood-prone rivers and streams across all geopolitical zones in the state.
This effort, recently led by Commissioner Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, represented by Director Oladipo Mukaila, emphasized the importance of the visit to assess the progress and achievements of the projects.
The assessment visits conducted by the government officials further demonstrate their dedication to finding effective solutions to mitigate the impact of flooding.
The Commissioner mentioned that the recently dredged rivers and streams include Araromi river, ‘Boroboro river, Isunwin stream in Oyo town, ‘Ora/Laka’ river in Ogbomoso, ‘Jalugbe’ Stream in Ilero, Telebu-Ayin-Opaleki River in Igboora, Ogba stream in Iseyin, Koba Stream on Ogboro Road in Saki, and Fedomu river in Igbeti.
These efforts aim to improve water flow and reduce flood risks in different areas of Oyo State.
The Oyo State Government is fully prepared to tackle urban flooding this year. As predicted by the Nigeria Hydrological Service Agency (NIHSA) and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) in their Annual Flow Outlook (AFO), fluvial flooding has been occurring in some states, including Oyo State. But don’t worry, the government is taking proactive measures to mitigate the impact and ensure the safety of its residents.
The team, which includes officers from the Ministry of Environment, the office of the Auditor-General of the State, and the Bureau of Public Procurement, conducted an assessment and expressed their contentment with the substantial progress made in flood prevention measures.
They emphasized the importance of these measures in protecting both lives and properties from potential harm.
