Olam marks 15 years, reaffirms commitment to Nigeria’s food security

By Abdullahi Lukman

Olam Agri has reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria’s food security as it marked 15 years since acquiring Crown Flour Mill (CFM), now a key player in the country’s food and agricultural sector.

The anniversary celebration was held in Lagos, drawing government officials, industry leaders, partners, and staff.

During the event, the company highlighted major milestones, including the establishment of Nigeria’s first state-of-the-art premix facility, backward integration efforts benefiting around 500 farmers, and partnerships with institutions such as the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, ICARDA, and the Lake Chad Research Institute to advance local wheat production.

Speaking at the event, Nitin Mehta, managing director and business head of Olam Agri’s wheat milling and pasta division, said the company’s accomplishments reflect its dedication to supporting the government’s New Hope Agenda for food security.

“We are building a platform for inclusive development that empowers partners and provides value to families,” he noted.

Anil Nair, country head for Olam Agri, emphasized the company’s continued push for sustainable agriculture and local food production.

He cited a 10-year roadmap for drought-resistant wheat seed development as a key part of its long-term strategy.

“We remain focused on enabling farming communities and achieving a food-secure future,” he said.

The event also recognized high-performing employees and long-term partners. Retail distributor Femi Areo praised the company’s consistent support and product quality, while long-serving staff member Femi Koya expressed gratitude for the opportunities and career growth the business had provided.

Since acquiring CFM in 2010, Olam Agri has grown to become Nigeria’s leading wheat milling and pasta manufacturer and one of Africa’s largest millers. CFM originally began operations in 1981.
