The Nigerian government has donated 100,000 cashew seeds and 2,000 cashew seedlings to Ethiopia as part of efforts to deepen agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice-President, announced the donation on Sunday in Addis Ababa.
The consignment, which can cover about 600 hectares of farmland, was received by Ethiopia’s Minister of State for Agriculture, Dr Efa Boru.
Nkwocha said the gesture reflects a joint commitment to sustainable agricultural development across Africa.
It also follows Ethiopia’s earlier donation of 2,000 Haas avocado seedlings and 2,000 coffee seedlings to Nigeria in June 2025.
The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda and supports Nigeria’s “Green Revolution Diplomacy,” aimed at using agriculture as a tool for fostering international relations and addressing food security.
The announcement coincided with Vice President Kashim Shettima’s arrival in Addis Ababa to attend the second United Nations Food Systems Summit, taking place from July 27 to 29.
The summit gathers global leaders to assess progress since the inaugural 2021 summit and drive efforts toward sustainable and inclusive food systems.
