NESREA seals Kano rice mill over environmental violations

By Awyetu Asabe Hope

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency has sealed a rice mill in Kano State over alleged environmental violations following repeated complaints from residents about dust emissions and offensive odour.

The enforcement exercise was carried out on Monday by a team led by NESREA Zonal Director, Abdulraheem Mudashir, who said the facility violated provisions of the National Environmental Regulations on Food, Beverages and Tobacco Sector, 2009.

Mudashir said the company ignored three compliance and abatement notices previously issued by the agency before the shutdown.
