Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has pledged continued support for farmers and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the state’s economy.

The Governor made the remarks during the Hawan Bariki Durbar homage at the Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Durbar ground in Dutse, where he received the Emir of Dutse, His Royal Highness Alhaji Hameem Muhammad Sanusi, as part of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Malam Namadi described the visit by the Emir and other traditional leaders as an opportunity for reflection and appreciation, noting that it highlighted the collective efforts in promoting peace, development, and cooperation across the state.

He expressed encouragement at the goodwill shown by traditional institutions, particularly their recognition of development projects being carried out across various emirates.

The Governor also thanked the people of Jigawa State for their continued support to both the state and federal governments, stressing that such collaboration is crucial for sustaining progress.

“As a government, we will continue to implement developmental projects for our communities, especially the underprivileged. Our focus remains on the poor in Jigawa State,” he said.

Addressing the challenges facing farmers, Governor Namadi acknowledged recent losses in agriculture but assured that both the Federal Government and the Jigawa State Government are aware of the situation and working to provide the necessary support.

He emphasized that agriculture is the main investment for the people of Jigawa State and promised measures to ensure that farmers can profit from their work.

Plans are already in place to assist farmers ahead of the upcoming dry season farming to improve productivity and restore confidence.

Governor Namadi highlighted the impact of rising petroleum prices, noting that the Federal Government is taking steps to ease the burden on citizens, including reducing transportation costs.

He assured that the state government will complement these efforts, particularly by supporting farmers and mitigating economic pressure on the populace.

The Governor also encouraged citizens to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise, stressing that voter cards are essential tools for democratic engagement and accountability.

He urged everyone to register, update, or replace voter cards as necessary, reminding citizens that their participation ensures elected officials are held accountable at the ballot box.

Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, conveyed the statement from Government House, Dutse, on March 21, 2026, highlighting the administration’s ongoing focus on development, agriculture, and civic participation.
