NGX group marks environment day with cleanup drive

By Abdullahi Lukman

The Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group) has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability through a community cleanup exercise in the Marina area of Lagos to commemorate World Environment Day 2026.

The initiative, organised in partnership with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Recyclers Association of Nigeria (RAN), brought together employee volunteers and representatives of the partner organisations to promote environmental awareness, responsible waste management and community participation.

According to the group, the exercise was aimed at supporting cleaner public spaces, encouraging proper waste disposal practices and fostering greater public engagement in environmental protection efforts.

Speaking on the initiative, the Head of Group Communications and Partnerships at NGX Group, Clifford Akpolo, said sustainability remains a core component of the organisation’s long-term value creation strategy.

He noted that the cleanup exercise reflects the group’s commitment to translating its sustainability goals into practical actions that benefit communities and promote environmental stewardship.

Akpolo added that the collaboration with LAWMA and RAN underscores the importance of collective efforts in addressing environmental challenges and strengthening waste management practices across the country.

The exercise also provided employees with an opportunity to participate directly in community service activities, in line with the group’s employee volunteering and corporate social responsibility objectives.

NGX Group stated that the initiative forms part of its Corporate Social Responsibility framework, particularly its environmental pillar, which focuses on recycling, sustainability awareness and
environmentally responsible interventions.

The organisation further emphasised the role of partnerships between private sector institutions and public agencies in improving waste management and recycling systems.

As part of its broader sustainability agenda, NGX Group said it would continue integrating Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles into its operations and stakeholder engagements to support sustainable development.
