The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) has launched the Green Nigeria Challenge in Dutse, Jigawa State, while distributing food items to widows, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups to promote environmental sustainability and social welfare.
On Wednesday, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, led the programme, according to a statement issued by Mrs Kwapchi-Bata Hamman, Special Assistant on Media and ICT in the Office of the Vice President.
The First Lady said the food outreach programme had reached 26 states and was designed to ensure that vulnerable Nigerians were not left behind in national development.
She stated, “The Renewed Hope Initiative remains steadfast in its mission to provide a safety net for those most in need, particularly women, children and vulnerable groups.”
According to Tinubu, the intervention complements the Renewed Hope Agenda through targeted humanitarian and social investment programmes supported by ASR Africa and an anonymous donor.
She also inaugurated the Renewed Hope Initiative Green Nigeria Challenge, themed “Go Green Today for a Greener Tomorrow,” to encourage tree planting, environmental sanitation and green innovation in communities.
Tinubu explained that the challenge, launched in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Environment, seeks to nurture environmentally conscious young Nigerians, noting that more than 3,000 participants registered for the programme in Jigawa.
Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi described the intervention as timely, saying it aligns with his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable residents across the state.
