The Kano State chapter of the Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP) has increased the price of sachet water, popularly known as “pure water,” to a minimum of N300 per bag across the state due to rising production costs.
The association’s Public Relations Officer, Anas Idris Hassan, announced that the price adjustment replaces the previous rate of N220 per bag.
He explained that the decision was taken after production materials and operational expenses increased significantly.
According to Hassan, the cost of essential materials has risen by about two-thirds, making it difficult for producers to sustain the former price.
He said the price of printing film used for packaging has increased to N3,700, while gas and fuel now cost about N1,500 per litre.
He also noted that the lack of stable electricity has forced most factories to rely heavily on generators, further increasing production costs.
The chairman of the association, Ahmad Bala Hudu, said the price review was necessary to prevent the collapse of the sachet water production industry in the state.
Despite the increase, Hudu warned producers against compromising on water quality, stressing that all members must maintain strict purification standards.
He added that reverse osmosis systems and other treatment processes must be properly maintained to ensure safe drinking water for consumers.
Hudu further stated that the association is collaborating with health authorities to inspect production facilities across the state. He warned that any producer found violating health regulations or ignoring approved standards would be reported to law enforcement agencies.
The association appealed to residents to show understanding over the price increase, especially as it comes during the ongoing Ramadan period.
