Anambra State House of Assembly has called on the Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, to insist developers and factory owners have catchment waste trash in their compounds to prevent climate crisis in Anambra State, South-Eastern, Nigeria.
This was contained in a motion passed on Tuesday in Anambra by the majority leader and member representing Ekwusigo Constituency, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme said, installing cover catchment pits in every home around the state will certainly help reduce the threat of flooding.
Ofodeme emphasized that the current practice of interlocking compounds without considering green paths or pits for water drainage from roofs has caused significant damage on roads and floodways.
Honourable Emmanuel Nwafor, the member for Orumba South Constituency Emmanuel while speaking in favor of the proposal, stated that the velocity of water coming out of various residences ends up seriously damaging the already-built roadways, especially those coming from factories that contain hazardous chemicals.

In addition to the motion, Honourable Jude Umennajiego of Onitsha South mentioned that “the state is vulnerable to erosion, emphasizing the significance of putting policies in place to check the problem.”
He also called for strict enforcement of the law to protect the environment in the interest of the people.
In his statement, Tony Moubike of the Aguata Constituency disclosed that the current administration already had a policy where anyone who constructs a structure without a green zone in their compound must pay a fine of 50,000 naira.
The Speaker, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze on his part, commended the chief sponsor of the motion.
