A devastating windstorm has destroyed houses, food storage facilities and property worth millions of naira in several communities in Suru Local Government Area, leaving many residents displaced.

The affected communities include Sambera, Jeroki, Becinga, Nassarawa, Tunga Soja, Tauken Mage, Tunga Muminu Oro and Ciwan Wanzam.

The storm, which struck on Wednesday night, tore through the communities, blowing off rooftops and damaging homes and other valuables.

Many families were forced out of their homes following the destruction caused by the disaster.

Residents, however, confirmed that no lives were lost during the incident.

Member representing Suru Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Faruku Abubakar Maisudan, visited the affected communities to assess the extent of the damage and sympathise with victims.

Addressing residents during the visit, the lawmaker described the incident as unfortunate and assured victims that efforts would be made to secure urgent government intervention.

He said the matter would be presented before the state government and relevant authorities to ensure that support reaches affected residents without delay.

Officials of the Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency, who accompanied the lawmaker on the assessment tour, also pledged immediate response and relief materials for victims.

The agency assured residents that the state government would provide assistance to cushion the hardship caused by the windstorm.
