Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has intensified climate change and road safety education for public school teachers and students across the state’s six education districts.
The sensitisation programme, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation and the Office of Environmental Services, was held on Tuesday, at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, said the initiative was aimed at equipping students with practical knowledge on road safety and environmental sustainability.
He noted that the state government remained committed to raising responsible and environmentally conscious citizens capable of contributing to sustainable development.
Alli-Balogun warned that Lagos continued to experience the effects of climate change, including flooding, heatwaves and rising sea levels, urging participants to embrace environmental responsibility and safe road practices.
Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, said the programme reflected the government’s commitment to holistic education beyond classroom learning.
She described the sensitisation as a call to action to build safer communities and empower young people with knowledge on environmental protection and transportation safety.
Participants also engaged in practical sessions on traffic regulations, interpretation of road signs and environmental preservation.
