Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says the state is nearing completion of a food logistics hub in Ketu, Epe, which he described as the largest of its kind in West Africa, to improve food distribution and strengthen food security.
Sanwo-Olu disclosed this on Wednesday, October 28, at an event organised by the Nigeria-British Chamber of Commerce, noting that the facility would help ensure a steady supply of food to Lagos and other parts of the country.
According to the governor, the hub will provide infrastructure for food storage and distribution, making it easier to move agricultural produce from suppliers to markets and consumers.
He said Lagos, as Nigeria’s largest consumer of foodstuffs, requires an efficient food supply chain to meet the demands of its growing population.
Sanwo-Olu added that the state would establish a mid-level market to receive supplies from the logistics hub and facilitate distribution to retailers and consumers.
The governor also highlighted Lagos’ rice processing capacity, stating that the state hosts the largest rice mill in the country
He explained that the logistics project forms part of the government’s broader strategy to secure the state’s food supply, improve the movement of essential commodities and strengthen connections between food producers, distributors and markets.
The facility is expected to support food availability by improving storage and distribution systems amid concerns over rising food costs and food security challenges across Nigeria.
