Residents of Kubwa Phase 4, Abuja, have been thrown into difficulty following a water shortage that began at about 4 p.m. yesterday and continued into this morning, leaving households struggling to access water for their daily needs.
The scarcity, which affects the entire Kubwa Phase 4, has disrupted normal household activities, with some residents seen carrying buckets around the neighbourhood in search of water and appealing to others for assistance.
In interviews with NatureNews, residents expressed frustration over the situation, describing the hardship caused by the lack of water and the absence of prior notice about the interruption.
Hussein Madaki, one of the residents interviewed by NatureNews, expressed concern over the disruption to residents’ daily routines, noting that access to water was essential for bathing, cooking and other household activities.
Madaki’s concern reflects the difficulties faced by residents who have been forced to seek alternative sources of water since the supply was interrupted.
Also speaking with NatureNews, Mrs Grace Effiong lamented the impact of the shortage on parents and schoolchildren. She expressed concern that some children might not be able to attend school because their families lacked water to bathe them and prepare meals before leaving home.
She noted that the situation had placed additional pressure on households already struggling to meet their basic daily needs.
Another resident, Caleb Kaltung, questioned the apparent failure to notify residents ahead of the interruption, stressing the importance of communication whenever water supply is expected to be unavailable for an extended period.
“If the water board was going to take this long to restore the water supply, why didn’t they give residents a short notice?” was the concern raised over the lack of advance information.
Kaltung’s concern highlights residents’ frustration over the difficulty of making alternative arrangements when an essential service is interrupted without sufficient warning.
Some residents also said the scarcity could prevent them from going to work, as they were unable to carry out their morning routines without water.
The affected residents appealed to the relevant authorities to explain the cause of the disruption and provide information on when normal water supply would resume.
However, no official of the water board was available for comment as of the time of filing this report.
The cause of the interruption and the expected time for restoration could not be independently confirmed.
Residents urged the relevant authorities to urgently address the situation and ensure that communities receive timely information whenever prolonged interruptions to water supply are anticipated.
For residents of Kubwa Phase 4, the immediate priority remains the restoration of water supply, as the continuing scarcity threatens to disrupt education, work and other essential household activities.
