The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Taraba State, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, has pledged to establish agro-processing zones, improve rural infrastructure and increase farmers’ incomes if elected governor in 2027.
Bwacha made the promise during the flag-off of the party’s 2027 governorship campaign in Zing Local Government Area, saying his proposed administration would prioritise agriculture as a driver of job creation, economic growth and improved livelihoods across the state’s three senatorial districts.
He said his government would invest in storage, processing, packaging, transportation and export facilities to reduce post-harvest losses and enable farmers to earn more from their produce.
The candidate also promised to rehabilitate roads linking farming communities to markets, particularly in Lau, Karim Lamido and Sardauna local government areas, to ease the transportation of agricultural products.
“We will develop agro-processing zones and value chains that will enable local farmers to participate more fully in the modern agricultural economy,” he said.
Bwacha identified infrastructure, public spending, borrowing, social services and relations between government and communities as key areas requiring urgent attention in Taraba.
He pledged to focus on rural security, education, healthcare, employment, infrastructure and human capital development, while expanding economic opportunities for women and young people.
The PDP candidate said governance should be centred on improving citizens’ welfare rather than merely exercising political power.
He added that government policies must address the needs of farmers, civil servants, pensioners, unemployed graduates and families seeking better healthcare and education.
According to him, Taraba needs a government that strengthens public institutions, engages communities and translates the state’s resources into tangible improvements in living standards.
Bwacha also called on his supporters to maintain peace throughout the campaign, urging political actors to promote issue-based debates rather than violence, intimidation or personal attacks.
“Politics is a contest of ideas, not war,” he said, stressing the need for responsible conduct during political campaigns and public engagements.
Earlier, PDP National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed urged Taraba residents to support Bwacha’s governorship ambition, expressing confidence that the party could build a state that reflects the aspirations of its people.
