The National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) and German climate fintech company, YAPU Solutions GmbH, have partnered to strengthen climate-risk management and financing for smallholder farmers in Nigeria.
The partnership was announced by NADF on Tuesday, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organisations to promote climate-resilient agricultural finance.
The agreement was signed by NADF Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Ibrahim, and YAPU Solutions Chief Executive Officer and Founder, Christoph Jung.
Under the partnership, the organisations will explore financial mechanisms and products that account for the risks climate change poses to agricultural production and farmers’ livelihoods.
The collaboration will focus on climate-risk analytics, data infrastructure, operational frameworks, capacity building and pilot projects.
YAPU is expected to provide technical expertise and digital tools, while NADF will facilitate operational engagement and participate in agreed pilot initiatives.
The partnership will also strengthen NADF’s capacity to assess and manage climate risks across its agricultural finance portfolio, potentially improving how lending decisions account for changing weather and climate conditions.
The organisations are expected to explore new or improved financial products designed to help smallholder farmers cope with climate-related risks affecting agricultural production.
The initiative will also provide opportunities for pilot projects and institutional capacity building, with the aim of strengthening the use of climate-risk data in agricultural lending.
By linking climate-risk information with agricultural finance, the partnership seeks to improve farmers’ access to financing while building greater resilience within Nigeria’s smallholder farming sector.
