The Uganda Wildlife Authority and the Wildlife Conservation Society have signed a 10-year agreement to support the recovery of lion populations in the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park.
The partnership will focus on protecting wildlife, restoring habitats, promoting sustainable tourism and reducing conflicts between communities and wild animals.
The agreement was announced during the inauguration of a six-member joint management committee at the UWA headquarters.
The committee comprises three representatives from UWA and three from the Wildlife Conservation Society.
The conservation programme is expected to strengthen coordinated efforts to protect lions and their habitat while supporting broader wildlife management and tourism development in the park.
