The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a warning to citizens to prepare for heavy rainfall and flash flooding in various parts of the country throughout July.
According to NiMet, the north and north-central states will experience increased rainfall activity, while the southern states will have cooler temperatures due to cloudy skies.
The agency advised the public to clear and maintain drainage systems to prevent flash flooding, which has already affected parts of Lagos, the country’s largest city.

On June 3, heavy rainfall caused flash floods along major roads, trapping motorists and pedestrians in stagnant water.
NiMet also predicted a “Dry Spell” and “Little Dry Season” towards the end of July, which will affect the central and northern states, leading to lean rainfall in these regions.
The agency’s warning comes as Lagos struggles with drainage problems, which have exacerbated the flooding situation.
Motorists are advised to take alternative routes to avoid flooded areas.
The heavy rainfall and flash flooding warnings have raised concerns among citizens, who are urged to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and property.
