Africa’s foremost nature publication, NatureNews has announced the opening of nominations for Hero of Environmental Actions for Development (HEAD) Awards.

The annual award recognises innovative solutions and significant contributions to climate change mitigation and sustainable environment in line with United Nations goals.

A statement by the newspaper’s Chief Operating Officer, Pius Alabi, disclosed that this year’s award will be conferred on individuals, Non-Governmental Organizations and public sector institutions that are playing remarkable roles in combating climate impact.

He said the Hero of Environmental Actions for Development will be selected in eight categories to cover climate adaptation, climate mitigation, environmental sustainability and climate finance.

Explaining the timeline for the award, Mr. Alabi said while nomination closes on August 30, nominees shortlisted for each category will be announced on September 6.

He said winners of the enviable awards will be unveiled on October 27 ahead of the Award ceremony slated for late November. Nominations can be made by clicking www.naturenews.africa/headawards/

Now in it’s third year, the maiden HEAD Award in 2021 was presented at a colourful ceremony held at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.

The event, which pioneered a unique Environmental award in Nigeria, was graced by eminent dignitaries including Ministers, corporate chieftains and environmental activists as well as school children.

The HEAD Award was promoted by NatureNews to engender climate awareness and reward efforts aimed at reversing the impact of climate change in Africa.

The award project enjoys the support of the newspaper’s advisory board which is composed of eminent personalities from across Africa www.naturenews.africa/advisoryboard/
