The RES4Africa Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Italy that advocates for the promotion of renewable energy solutions in African countries, recently concluded a high-level event in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Rome Center for Climate Action and Energy Transition.
The event aimed to explore the utilization of renewable energy sources in Africa.
The high-level event was attended by dignitaries from across Africa and around the world.
Participants expressed strong expectations for the role of renewables in Africa, emphasizing how strategic investments in the continent’s renewable energy sector can lead to socio-economic development, job creation, and improved livelihoods.
During the event, the RES4Africa Foundation also launched its 2023 Flagship Publication, providing a comprehensive overview of the current status of renewable energy deployment.
The publication highlights the cost-effectiveness of renewables, their contribution to energy security, adaptability to remote areas, and their potential for socio-economic development.
Roberto Vigotti, the Secretary General of RES4Africa, emphasized the significance of the Flagship Publication, stating that it signifies a renewed effort in the transformative journey towards Africa’s energy future.
He described it as a call to action and a declaration of the collective commitment to harness the power of clean energy for Africa’s progress through transparent deployment of finance and expertise.
Agostino Inguscio, the coordinator of the UNDP Rome Centre, expressed dedication to promoting renewable energy access throughout Africa, with a specific focus on the African context.
He highlighted the commitment to mobilizing finance and supporting country-level projects that drive economic growth, innovation, and infrastructure development.
Inguscio emphasized the importance of breaking down barriers to renewable energy diffusion by working closely with local governments, institutions, and the private sector.
According to the RES4Africa Foundation, redirecting investments and scaling up clean energy financing are crucial for Africa to unlock its abundant renewable resources and achieve sustainable growth.
