Roselle or Zobo as it is commonly called is a flowering plant in the genus Hibiscus that is native to Africa, especially West Africa and spread to other tropical countries. It is known in Nigeria as Isapa among the Yoruba and Yakuwa in Hausa while the seeds is called Gurguzu and the capsule, Zobo in Hausa of Northern Nigeria.

Zobo is known to be one of the most consumed beverages in the world, ranging from Africa to Asia, Europe, America, and it is consumed in various homes and restaurants.

Zobo drink or Hibiscus tea ranks among the world most popular beverages which is native to Nigeria. The drink is produced from Hibiscus Sabdariffa or dried Roselle leaves which contains powerful medicinal properties. The English name of Zobo is Hibiscus sabdariffa tea or drink.

Zobo drink is popular worldwide due to its unique flavour, exceptional taste, and quality nutrients. Zobo has loads of potent nutrients which includes Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Phosphorous, Niacin, Riboflavin, Fiber, Fat, Thiamine, Carotene, etc. All these nutrients make the Hibiscus tea a very healthy drink. It is also free from caffeine with low calories.

Zobo drink has hibiscus protocatechuic acid, known for its antitumor and antioxidant properties. It can help hinder the growth of certain cancerous cells by inferring apoptosis, often regarded as programmed cell death in gastric cancer cells.

Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Phosphorous, Niacin, Riboflavin, Fiber, Fat, Thiamine, Carotene, with antibacterial properties contained in Zobo work harmoniously to repair your digestive system and restore your lost appetite. Fibre is great for the digestive health and also helps to combat constipation.

The Zobo drink is loaded with numerous formidable nutrients which help to alleviate several health challenges such as high blood pressure, kidney and liver diseases, weight problems, heart related problems, menstrual pains and so on.

Zobo is a healthy and nutritious drink, but pregnant women and nursing mothers are advised to avoid consuming zobo due to its detrimental effects on maternal and child health.
