Triple G Eco Revolution Solutions, a Non-Governmental Organisation, has stressed the need to instill consciousness and discipline of taking good care of the environment in the heart of youths has been stressed.
The Founder of the organisation, Mrs Oluwaseyi Ebenezer, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of an award and dinner party organised for youths in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday.
Ebenezer said that their participation in the programme tagged: “Eco Art Challenge” provides opportunity for youths between the ages of 16 and 25 in Ekiti and other Southwest states to make drawings relating to the environment.
She said that the effect of climate change on the society in recent time in which Ekiti was not an exception prompted her desire to adopt a different and unique method to create awareness among the people, hence the birth of Eco Art Challenge.
She explained that the exercise was aimed at using pictorial works to educate the people on the importance of maintaining a hygienic environment by encouraging afforestation, clearing of water ways, and the need for people to shun bush burning, building on water ways and indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
“We know that pictorial things stick so much to the heart of people and it could easily send millions of message even without inscription.
“This is why we at the Triple G Eco Revolution Solutions have continued to create massive awareness in the state, particularly among the youths on climate change and other environmental activities through the use of art.”
Speaking at the ceremony, a former Provost of the old College of Education, Ikere Ekiti, Prof. Mojisola Oyarekhua, stressed the need for every member of the society to work towards an environment free of disasters which could be occasioned by climate change.
She noted that the recent climate change in the society was as the result of the damaged done to the forest in the past.
She encouraged participants at the event to imbibe the act of planting trees, noting that it had a good effect on the society.
The commissioner for Art, Culture and Tourism in Ekiti, Prof. Ojo Bakare, emphasised on the need for all and sundry to contribute their quota to a healthy environment.
He promised the support of the ministry to the vision of the NGO to combat the challenges facing the environment.
Others who spoke at the event included Chairman of the State Board of Internal Revenue, Mr Ade Ogunmilade, with a promise to support the vision of Triple G Eco Revolution Solutions.
Also contributing, Mr Ayo Apata, who is the CEO of Likeparadise Shopping mall and sponsor of the Eco Art challenge, explained that Triple G Eco has further driven his interest in change and environmental issues.
He commended the contestants for good performance, saying that they had impressed with the thoughts and solutions provided to address this global crisis.
NAN reports that highlight of the programme was the reward of cash and material gifts to some of the youths, who made unique drawings on global environmental issues.
