The people of Dandeyi, a community in Keffi, Nasarawa State have cried out over the issues of lack of water in the community, as they appeal to the government to come to their aid.
Speaking with NatureNews correspondent on Wednesday, the Sarki of Dandeyi Alhaji Musa Dandeyi, said the lack of water in the community has left them with the option of stream water which is not safe and sometimes will make our children sick.
His word “water is as important as the air we breathe, it is very essential to human systems. For a community like this living without a good source of water is a big challenge.
“ The lack of water in our community has left us with river water. Most streams in our community are not flowing but stagnant, but we drink without option
“ Four years back, the State Government made a borehole, but the borehole is not working since it has been dug, we planned as a community to restructure the borehole but there was no financial help.”
NatureNews correspondent who went round the community, confirmed that most of the stream waters are stagnant.
One of the villagers, Hammed Rabiu emphasised that the issues of water in the community do not encourage the youth in the farming system.
“ We don’t farm or have a small garden for crops. We buy most of the things we are eating from Keffi and other villages.
“Things like Vegetable pepper, tomatoes, yams, and others.
“We only enjoy farming during rainy seasons.
“The government does not care to help us, they only come around during the election period and disappeared after.”
According to Murufat Murudeen, a food seller, also complained on how difficult it is to get water for her business.
“ I used to buy above N1,000 water every day from other villages that have water, this is because the stream water is not good enough for cooking. The situation is not funny and not easy.”
The villagers, therefore, appealed to the government and individuals to intervene in the situation and help them.
“ We urge the government and whosoever capable, to help us out of this situation.
“The water we drinking is not good enough for us particularly our children.
“ We need good water just like every other person, “ Abdullah Kafayat, mother of four children, added.
