The residents of Zuba Abuja and Suleja of Niger state have lamented the unfortunate condition of air pollution caused by incessant burning of refuse by the roadside.
Speaking to Naturenews, Isah Nuhu, a resident of Suleja expressed his dissatisfaction over the increase in burning of refuse by the roadside.
“People around here have this bad habit of indiscriminate dumping of refuse in an open place, most of them dump the refuse at night and the best others could do is to burn them.
“We often come out of our house to relax and catch fresh breathe outside, but instead, we inhale the burning of refuse which I believe is very detrimental to our health.
“Most often, we, the shop owners across the road here, try to enforce law against the residents not to dump or burn refuse, but when we return home later in the evening, then, the following morning we will certainly meet a heap of dumped refuse.
“This is very bad to our health but we are helpless.”
Meanwhile, others have blamed the government for negligence over places like Zuba and the rest for not putting strict rules to regulate environmental pollution and station environment agency in some of those place.
Mr John Paul, a shop owner at spare part market, Zuba maintained that government should do better not only in security but also enforce environment rules and regulations.
“People who dump refuse indiscriminately should be punished, some should be jailed for a period of time, because they are not different from assassins. Dumpers of refuse are killers who kill silently without notice.
“Most of the time, refuse is burnt but even when they are been burnt, they bring another harm to our health which is unfair.
Paul later called on the government to ensure that lives of people are protected by ensuring health safety of people around the metropolis.
