The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said that Abia, Kogi and Kebbi state residents paid the highest amount for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly referred to as petrol in February.
The NBS said this in its “Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) Price Watch for February 2021’’ released on its website on Saturday.
It said that Abia residents paid N180 for the product, while Kogi residents paid N175.82 and Kebbi residents paid N173.07.
Meanwhile, states with the lowest average price of petrol were Osun where it was sold at N162.91, Nassarawa N163.08 and Katsina N163.25.
According to the NBS, the average price paid by consumers for petrol increased by 14.32 year-on-year and month-on-month by 1.31 per cent to N166.24 in February from N164.09 in January.
Similarly, the average price paid by consumers for Automotive Gas Oil otherwise known as diesel increased by 1.29 per cent month-on-month and by 0.67 per cent year-on-year to N227.76 in February from N224.86 in January.
According to the report, states with the highest average price of diesel were Zamfara whose residents paid N268.78, Adamawa N263.33 and Kebbi N257.5.
Also, states with the lowest average price of diesel were Osun N206.5, Ekiti N207.86 and Plateau N208.57.
Fieldwork for the report was done solely by more than 700 NBS staff in all states of the federation supported by supervisors who were monitored by internal and external observers.
Fuel Prices were collected across all the 774 local governments across all states and the FCT from over 10,000 respondents and locations.
The price reflected actual prices households bought fuel together with the prices reportedly sold by the fuel suppliers.
The average of all these prices was then reported for each state and the average for the country as the average for the state. In another report, the bureau said the average price for refilling five kilogrammes (5kg cylinder of Cooking Gas) increased to N2,018.91 in February from N1,949.02 in January.
The bureau said this in its “Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) Price Watch’’ for February 2021 obtained from its website in Abuja.
The NBS said that the price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder of cooking gas increased by 3.59 per cent month-on-month and by 1.18 per cent year-on-year in the period under review.
According to it, states with the highest average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder of cooking gas are Bauchi N2, 487.46; Adamawa N2, 396.99; and Borno N2,396.22. It added that states with the lowest average price for refilling 5kg cylinder for cooking gas were Ebonyi N1,756.25; Kogi, N1,775; and Jigawa N1,795.
“Similarly, the average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for cooking gas increased by 4.45 per cent month-on-month and by 4.38 per cent year-on-year to N4, 363.51 in February from N4,177.55 in January.
“States with the highest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for cooking gas were Sokoto N4, 884.04, Cross River N4,853.57 and Bauchi N4,682.50.
“States with the lowest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for cooking gas were Zamfara N3,754.25, Kaduna N3,858.33 and Katsina N3,988.99.”
It said that the various prices were collected across all the 774 local governments in the states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), from over 10, 000 respondents and locations.
The NBS said its audit team subsequently conducted randomly selected verification of prices recorded.
