Zelestra launches 162mw solar projects in Spain

By Abdullahi Lukman

Zelestra has commissioned three solar plants—Belinchón I, II and III—with a combined capacity of 162MW in Cuenca, Spain, strengthening the country’s clean energy capacity.

The projects were completed in under 14 months by the company’s in-house engineering, procurement and construction team and created about 400 jobs during the construction phase.

The Belinchón solar cluster is supported by a long-term multi-buyer power purchase agreement under the Energize programme, aimed at helping the pharmaceutical sector reduce carbon emissions.

Across the three plants, approximately 275,000 solar panels have been installed using single-axis tracking systems to optimise energy generation.

The facilities are expected to cut more than 42,700 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

According to Luis Alvargonzalez, the project represents a major addition to the company’s global portfolio and contributes to Spain’s transition to cleaner energy, while also supporting industrial decarbonisation across Europe.

Zelestra currently has about 1.1GW of contracted clean energy projects in Spain, with a broader development pipeline exceeding 7GW.
