On December 1, 2023, the World Bank revealed a broad and ambitious finance package geared to support climate-related initiatives in developing nations at the ongoing United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP28, in Dubai.
This is as the World Bank took center stage with a resounding demonstration of its unwavering commitment to catalyzing climate action and fortifying the resilience of nations grappling with the far-reaching impacts of climate change.
This milestone announcement underscores a pivotal shift in the World Bank’s approach to climate finance, as it pledges to channel a substantial 45% of its annual financing towards climate-focused initiatives for the fiscal year spanning July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.
This heightened ambition represents a notable escalation from preceding financial commitments and is poised to inject over $40 billion into critical climate-related endeavors, marking a substantial increase of $9 billion compared to previous projections.
