Water Access: NGO’s 21 Boreholes Bring Hope to Five States

By Grace Samuel

In a transformative initiative, the Grassroots Aid Initiative (TGAI), a non-governmental organization (NGO), has successfully completed the construction of 21 boreholes in five states across Nigeria.

Dr. Kehinde Kadiri, the founder of TGAI, shared this remarkable achievement during an interview on Monday, October 23, 2023, in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The latest achievement for TGAI was the successful completion of its 21st water project in Gaa Oloni, located in the Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Dr. Kadiri highlighted that this particular project was made possible through an exclusive sponsorship from a UK-based online pharmacy store, dedicated to addressing the pressing water needs of this community.

TGAI’s origins can be traced back to a passion for capturing the stories of grassroots communities through compelling photography.

Founded in 2017, this organization is unwavering in its commitment to supporting and promoting five Sustainable Development Goals: No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Wellbeing, Quality Education, and Clean Water and Sanitation.

In pursuit of improved health and well-being, TGAI has organized essential initiatives such as malaria seminars, campaigns against drug abuse, and the provision of medical assistance to the elderly.

The organization’s dedication to Quality Education is evident through its efforts to offer scholarships and donate school materials to underprivileged students, along with providing digital training to secondary school students.

The impact of TGAI’s work extends to five states, encompassing Osun, Oyo, Ogun, Kwara, and Lagos. Dr. Kadiri expressed heartfelt gratitude to all those who have contributed to TGAI’s mission in the past.

In a separate interview, Okanlawon Adebayo, the Mogaji of Gaa Oloni, shared the community’s profound appreciation for the water project.

He emphasized the life-changing nature of this endeavor, noting that “water is life.” The residents had previously relied on stream water, often having to travel long distances to fetch it. Now, with the new borehole, they have easy access to clean water, improving their quality of life.

Mogaji Adebayo extended heartfelt thanks to TGAI and offered prayers for the organization’s continued success, acknowledging that many initially doubted if this project would come to fruition.
