Tinubu approves N50b for water projects in FCT satellite towns

By Abbas Nazil

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved N50 billion for the provision of potable water in Abuja’s satellite towns, signaling a commitment to improving infrastructure and the lives of residents in these areas.

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, made this announcement on Thursday, January 23 while commissioning the reconstructed 5-kilometer Garage–LEA Secretariat road in Kuje town.

Wike revealed that the allocation reflects the president’s determination to address water scarcity in suburban communities.

He emphasized that the initiative forms part of a broader vision to enhance the living conditions of Nigerians under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Some of the satellite towns like Kubwa, Bwari, and Gwagwalada already enjoy public water supply.

However, many other areas still rely on private efforts, which the government aims to supplement and standardize through this project.

The minister noted that the project aligns with a Memorandum of Understanding signed last year between Nigeria and China.

The agreement with the China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC) aims to tackle water shortages in satellite towns, with Kuje Area Council listed as a major beneficiary.

The FCT minister assured the public that the administration remains dedicated to fulfilling its promises.

Addressing residents, Wike highlighted Tinubu’s commitment to transcending political affiliations, asserting that the president prioritizes the well-being of all Nigerians rather than partisan interests.

“Tinubu’s administration is not about party,” he stated. “It is about Nigerians. Changing the lives of Nigerians, and that is what we are doing here.”

The minister also announced several other developmental projects in Kuje, including the construction of the Pegi road and the Kuje-Gwagwalada link road.

He added that ongoing work on the Airport–Kuje link road would be completed in record time, further improving connectivity in the region.

The commissioning of the Garage–LEA Secretariat road was marked with jubilation from residents, who now benefit from 162 solar-powered streetlights installed along the newly reconstructed road.

Wike reiterated that with continuous support from the people, more developmental projects would be implemented in the area, boosting infrastructure and ensuring the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda becomes a reality for all.
