Solar-powered borehole commissioned in Nasarawa community

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has commissioned a solar-powered borehole in Tudun Adabu, Obi Local Government Area, to improve access to clean water and reduce water-borne diseases in rural communities.
Represented by the Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, Mustapha Agah Muluku, the governor described the project, executed by the Society for Family Health (SFH), as a major step toward expanding safe and sustainable water supply across the state.
Sule said the facility would ease the burden on women and children, particularly girls who travel long distances in search of water, while also promoting better hygiene and healthier living conditions.
He added that the state government has sustained a productive partnership with SFH under the WASH project for more than four years in selected schools, communities and health facilities across four local government areas.
According to him, the collaboration supports the Nasarawa Economic Development Strategy aimed at ensuring equitable access to potable water for residents.
Speaking on behalf of SFH Group Managing Director, Dr. Omokhudu Idogho, Abdulsamad Salihu said the borehole project represents hope and improved living standards for communities that have faced persistent water shortages.
WASH Project Director, Jane Adizue, explained that the WASH for Healthy Lives initiative, funded by Procter & Gamble, started in 2022 with campaigns promoting safe water, hygiene and sanitation practices in high-risk communities.
She said the organisation later identified the need for direct infrastructure support after years of sensitisation efforts, leading to the approval of boreholes in six locations across Nasarawa State.
She urged communities and the state government to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities for long-term sustainability.
A community leader, Alanana Ibrahim, said residents had endured years of inadequate access to clean water before the intervention.
