Six Rotary Clubs in Lagos have completed and commissioned a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project at Community Primary School, Iroko Aparadija, Abule Iroko in Ogun State, aimed at improving access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene for pupils.

The project, inaugurated on April 1, 2026, is expected to enhance students’ health and create a better learning environment, while promoting proper hygiene practices and reducing the risk of disease.

The initiative was carried out as part of Rotary International’s global focus on water and sanitation and reflects its commitment to supporting education and community development through sustainable interventions.

At the commissioning ceremony, the Oniroko of Iroko Land, Oba Olusegun Ayinde Feyijimi Iroko, Gbadewolu I, praised the Rotary Clubs for their contribution, describing the project as impactful and beneficial to the community.

The participating clubs—Rotary Club of Alakuko, Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA, Rotary Club of Adeniyi Jones, Rotary Club of Nigeria Globetrotters, Rotary Club of Ikeja Airport, and Rotary Club of Maryland—were represented by their presidents and members, highlighting strong collaboration.

Community members, including traditional leaders, teachers, and pupils, attended the event and expressed appreciation for the intervention.

Headmistresses Mrs Sodehinde Olorunkemi and Mrs Olorunkosebi Maryam, along with staff and students of the beneficiary schools, were also present.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Chief Tunji Bello described the project as timely, noting that it would address critical needs and improve living and learning conditions.

The WASH facility is designed to provide clean water and improved sanitation infrastructure, aligning with Rotary’s focus on disease prevention, education, and long-term community well-being.
