Tatagyiya community, located in Gwagwa Ward in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the Federal Capital Territory, is currently grappling with a recurring diarrhea outbreak caused by a dirty and contaminated stream that serves as the community’s primary source of water.
The dire situation has prompted calls for urgent intervention from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the FCT Senator, Ireti Kingibe. Monitng, a civic technology platform dedicated to empowering citizens with information on public projects and access to public data, recently shared distressing photographs of the community. The images revealed the unsanitary conditions surrounding the stream and highlighted the plight of residents who rely on it for their water needs.
According to Monitng, the water from the stream is completely unsafe for human consumption. The community has been plagued by frequent cases of diarrhea, particularly among children, as a result of consuming this contaminated water.
In an urgent plea, Monitng took to social media to draw attention to the dire situation.
They called upon Minister Nyesom Wike and Senator Ireti Kingibe to intervene swiftly and engage the relevant authorities to address the pressing issue of clean and safe water supply in Tatagyiya community.
The residents of Tatagyiya community are eagerly awaiting a response from the responsible authorities, hoping for immediate action to alleviate their suffering and ensure their access to clean and potable water.
