By Abbas Nazil

Qatar’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) has organized a workshop in Doha to review the upcoming “State of the Environment in the State of Qatar – Second Edition 2025” report.

The event brought together experts and specialists from various national institutions to examine the report’s contents and provide valuable feedback before its final release.

According to a statement by the ministry, the report aims to document the country’s environmental situation across all major components, drawing on accurate scientific data and indicators covering the period from 2020 to 2024.

The report was developed in collaboration with Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar University, and the Earthna Center.

It adopts the Driver–Pressure–State–Impact–Response (DPSIR) framework developed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), ensuring its alignment with international standards.

The comprehensive document addresses nine key areas including marine and terrestrial environments, biodiversity, air quality, climate change, waste management and the circular economy, environmental policies and governance, and future outlooks.

Engineer Hussein Al Kubaisi, Director of the Technical Office at MECC, said that the report reflects Qatar’s strong interest in environmental protection and its commitment to Qatar National Vision 2030 and the directives of its leadership.

He explained that the workshop was an opportunity to involve strategic partners in evaluating the report’s findings, ensuring that different perspectives and expertise contribute to shaping its final version.

Dr. Mohammed Saif Al Kuwari, Advisor at the ministry, described the report as a comprehensive scientific reference that will support environmental sustainability in Qatar.

He noted that it is expected to strengthen the capacity of decision-makers by providing policies rooted in solid scientific evidence.

He reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to safeguarding natural resources and achieving sustainability for future generations, stressing that such initiatives are essential for long-term resilience in the face of environmental challenges.
