The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi) has introduced new mobile refuelling units (MRUs) to meet rising demand for compressed natural gas (CNG) in Nigeria.
This comes as more Nigerians convert their vehicles to CNG hybrids as part of President Bola Tinubu’s drive to promote cleaner, more affordable fuel alternatives.
Designed to support the rapid shift to CNG, these MRUs are essentially complete CNG stations on wheels, capable of refuelling up to 40 vehicles per hour.

Built with compressors, generators, and gas dispensers, each compact unit is mounted on a flatbed truck for easy deployment. Currently, six units have been delivered to Lagos and Abuja, with regulatory approvals pending.
Toyin Subair, Vice Chairman of PCNGi, on Tuesday, November 5, emphasized the strategic need for these units to complement physical refuelling stations as conversions continue to rise.
“With nearly 100,000 vehicles expected to convert by this year’s end, innovative refuelling options are essential,” he said.
An additional ten units have arrived at Nigerian ports and are set to be deployed nationwide.
PCNGi’s strategic partnership with NIPCO underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring CNG availability across the country, alongside investments from NNPC Limited and other stakeholders in CNG infrastructure and training.
