Police responds to reports of security threat in FCT

By Nneka Nwogwugwu

The Bwari Divisional Police Officer, Biodun Makanjuola, has called on residents to disregard reports of security threat in FCT.

NatureNews had reported that some residents of communities in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory raised alarm over the invasion of migrating herders reportedly from Niger Republic.

According to the Vanguard, this development forced some residents of Sabon-Wuse, a few kilometres away from Bwari Area Council, to stay at home in fear of the unknown.

But Makanjuola on Thursday, urged the residents to dismiss rumours that Bwari town had been infiltrated by some suspected insurgents who came through the FCT border with another state.

“In fact, I am surprised to hear the stories going round that Bwari town is under attack which is not true.

“I think a radio programme where some contributors said a truckload of suspected insurgents were sighted at Sabon-Bwari, a town close to Sabon-Wuse area of Niger State, caused the panic.

“We monitored the situation throughout yesterday, to see if there would be any infiltration and we are still doing so till this morning (Thursday).”

Makanjuola said he placed a call on DPO of Sabon-Wuse division but the DPO of the area was also shocked about the rumours.

The DPO also said that it was possible that those sighted were migrants returning to their villages to begin cropping with the setting-in of the rain.

He assured residents that the police will continue to do their best to protect lives and property of entire residents of the area.
