No casualties as CNG buses explode in Kaduna motor park

By Abdullahi Lukman

At least three compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered luxury buses owned by Silver Transport Company were destroyed in an early morning explosion at Kawo Motor Park on Sunday.

No casualties were recorded, as the vehicles were unoccupied at the time of the incident, which occurred around 3:00 a.m., according to eyewitnesses.

A manager at a logistics firm operating within Mando Motor Park, who spoke anonymously, said the buses had been parked in preparation for interstate travel later in the day when the explosion happened.

The manager noted that the buses were newly acquired and powered by CNG, raising concerns about the technology’s use.

“Fortunately, no one was inside the vehicles.

They were set to begin boarding passengers this morning,” he said, adding that there may be challenges in handling CNG-powered systems.

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant agencies have since visited the scene and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion.

Authorities say inquiries are ongoing as they work to establish what led to the incident.
