In a landmark move towards sustainable transportation, Taqa Volt, a subsidiary of the renowned Egyptian energy group Taqa Arabia, is poised to install nine cutting-edge charging stations in the suburbs of Cairo, with a particular focus on meeting the growing demand from electric vehicle owners in New Cairo.
Home to nearly 2 million residents, New Cairo boasts modern infrastructure designed to enhance the quality of life for its inhabitants.
However, residents, especially in areas like Festival City, have been lacking in adequate charging facilities for electric vehicles.
The futuristic Festival City, developed by Egyptian real estate giant Al-Futtaim Real Estate (AFRE) across a vast expanse of 300,000 km2, will soon be equipped with nine state-of-the-art charging stations for electric vehicles. Taqa Volt has been entrusted with the task of designing, managing, and operating these essential facilities.
As a subsidiary of Taqa Arabia Group, a leading private energy provider in Egypt, Taqa Volt aims not only to meet the evolving needs of their discerning clientele but also to contribute to the broader environmental objectives of the city, promoting eco-friendly and sustainable practices.
Ashraf Ezz El-Din, Managing Director of AFRE, emphasized, “By integrating these cutting-edge charging stations into this luxurious enclave, we are not only addressing the changing needs of our discerning customers but also advancing the broader environmental goal of a city within a city, one that is environmentally friendly and self-sufficient. We are committed to comprehensive smart city solutions, including the development of innovative ideas for green buildings and sustainable practices in the Cairo suburbs.”
Furthermore, this strategic initiative by Taqa Arabia demonstrates astute business acumen, further solidifying its position in the competitive natural gas market, not only in Egypt but also on a global scale.
For instance, in 2022, Taqa successfully supplied five vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) to the government of Equatorial Guinea.
This transition to CNG, emitting significantly lower CO2 emissions compared to traditional fuels, aligns with the global trend towards decarbonizing the transportation sector.
This venture marks a progressive leap towards sustainable transportation in New Cairo, heralding a greener future for residents and serving as a positive example for environmentally conscious cities worldwide.
