Abuja residents on Monday evening experienced relief from weeks of intense heat as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) recorded its first rainfall of 2026.
The brief shower, which fell between 5:11 p.m. and 5:41 p.m., affected several areas, including Lugbe, Jabi and Life Camp, offering temporary respite from soaring temperatures worsened by unstable power supply.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of sunshine, cloudiness and isolated thunderstorms across the country from Monday to Wednesday.
According to the outlook released on Sunday, northern parts of the country are expected to experience predominantly sunny and cloudy conditions, while similar weather patterns are anticipated in the central region.
In the southern states, NiMet projected sunny skies with cloud patches and isolated thunderstorms, accompanied by light rainfall over Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.
By Tuesday, sunny and hazy conditions are expected over the northern and central regions, while the south may witness morning thunderstorms with light rain in Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River.
Later in the day, thunderstorms are forecast over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa states.
NiMet advised residents, particularly in areas prone to thunderstorms and strong winds, to take necessary safety precaution.
