The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s transformative agricultural agenda as the country marked its 65th Independence Day on October 1, 2025.
In his Independence Day message, Kyari emphasized that the administration’s focus on agriculture is central to achieving food sovereignty, ensuring that no family goes hungry, and that Nigeria’s granaries are filled with homegrown produce.
“Independence is not only political; it is also economic and agricultural self-reliance,” Kyari said, reflecting on how far the Ministry has come in harnessing the nation’s vast arable lands and natural resources.
He credited President Tinubu’s leadership for prioritising agriculture as the backbone of the economy, implementing policies that empower farmers, enhance productivity, and reduce reliance on imported food.
Kyari highlighted initiatives such as the Renewed Hope Agenda, which mobilizes resources to support smallholder farmers with improved seeds, fertilisers, and modern farming techniques.
He stressed that these efforts are aimed at creating a self-sufficient Nigeria, where staple foods are produced locally.
“Through these strategic interventions, every table in Nigeria will be abundantly supplied by our own soil,” Kyari said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to building lasting food security and economic independence.
