Minister seeks stronger ties with NMGS on water management

The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, has called for enhanced collaboration between the ministry and the Nigeria Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) to advance geoscience research.
He made this appeal during a courtesy visit on him by the NMGS President, Prof. Akintunde Olatunji, and executive members in Abuja on Friday, February 14, 2025.
Prof. Utsev emphasized the crucial relationship between water resources and mining, highlighting the significance of geophysical research in dam construction, irrigation projects, and water management.
He stressed that a strategic partnership with NMGS would foster scientific innovation and improve sustainable water resource development in Nigeria.
The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to leveraging geoscience expertise for infrastructure projects that align with national goals.
Speaking on behalf of the NMGS, Prof. Akintunde Olatunji reaffirmed the society’s dedication to promoting mining, earth sciences, and metallurgy through research and professional excellence.
He noted that collaboration with the Ministry of Water Resources would enhance knowledge-sharing and technological advancements in areas critical to water and environmental sustainability.
