Lawmaker Distributes Free Fertilizer to Boost Agriculture in Bauchi State
Hon. Mansur Manu Soro, the representative of Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency in Bauchi state, emphasized the importance of agricultural intervention for food production and security.
He made this declaration during the distribution of 2,500 bags of assorted fertilizer to farmers in his constituency, considering the high market cost of the commodity.
Speaking in Sade town, Darazo Local Government, Hon. Mansur Manu Soro stated that the distributed fertilizer was provided free of charge, specifically benefiting the peasants who cannot afford to purchase it.
A Standing Committee is ensuring that all selected beneficiaries from the 22 Electoral Wards in the constituency receive the fertilizer.
The lawmaker highlighted that Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency is predominantly rural, with 95 percent of its population engaged in farming.
Therefore, intervention in this critical sector is essential for supporting food production and economic development.
Hon. Mansur Manu Soro explained that the intervention is an ongoing process, as his constituents heavily rely on farming in an agrarian community.
Previous interventions included the provision of a tractor, 2,500 bags of fertilizer, 1,000 pumping machines, and spraying machines. He expressed the commitment to sustain and potentially expand these efforts in the future.
Malam Musa Isah Ibrahim, the District Head of Sade, praised the timely and crucial gesture, especially in the face of economic hardships associated with fuel price hikes, which hindered many farmers from buying fertilizers.
He thanked the lawmaker for his continuous support and emphasized that the free fertilizer was beneficial not only to the farmers but also to the 25 village heads under his district who benefited from the initiative.
The recipients of the free fertilizer included farmers from various backgrounds, such as traditional rulers, religious leaders, women and youth groups, road transport workers, motorcycle groups, and politicians.
