Delta Govt to Demolish Buildings on Waterways to Tackle Flooding
The Delta State Government has issued a final warning to building owners situated on waterways, signaling an imminent demolition exercise to combat recurrent flooding in certain areas.
Frank Omare, the Director of Special Duties to the Delta State Government, emphasized that there would be no exceptions in the enforcement.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had previously ordered the demolition of any structures constructed on waterways while inspecting drainage systems in Warri and Effurun to address flooding issues.
In preparation for the upcoming demolition operation, the Director of Special Duties has embarked on a sensitization exercise in Warri South and Uvwie Councils, cautioning building owners to vacate their properties.
Several structures obstructing watercourses have been identified for removal, including a building in Ugboroke, Warri South, and a wood market situated on a canal in Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area.
The Delta State Government views these actions as part of its broader efforts to restore the environment and improve conditions in the state. The message to defaulters is clear: the government is committed to taking necessary measures to enhance the state’s overall well-being.
