Government has apprehended an individual for allegedly dumping refuse on a public road in the state.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) page on Monday.
Wahab said the suspect was arrested during an early morning patrol by environmental enforcement officers monitoring compliance with sanitation regulations across the state.
According to the commissioner, the arrest followed the circulation of a video showing the individual allegedly dumping refuse on a public road, an act considered a violation of the state’s environmental sanitation laws.
“During our early morning patrol today, the individual seen in the video was apprehended for dumping refuse on the road,” Wahab stated.
He added that the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the environmental laws of Lagos State.
Wahab noted that the arrest forms part of the government’s broader efforts to enforce environmental regulations and curb indiscriminate waste disposal, which contributes to flooding and environmental degradation in the state.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly environment, warning residents to desist from acts that violate sanitation laws.
The commissioner further stated that enforcement officers would continue monitoring various parts of the state to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
