The Lagos State Government says 931 persons were arrested for waste-related offences during environmental enforcement operations conducted across the state within one year.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on Sunday during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing in Alausa, Ikeja.

According to him, intensified monitoring, enforcement and compliance operations led to the inspection of 2,251 sites, issuance of 1,711 contravention notices and sealing of 239 sites for environmental violations.

Wahab added that enforcement teams evacuated over 650 tonnes of construction waste from different parts of the state during the review period.

He also said the state government strengthened environmental monitoring through the installation of 114 air quality sensors and rehabilitation of pollution abatement facilities across Lagos.

According to the commissioner, cleaner fish processing technology introduced at Ago Egun helped reduce smoke emissions, improve air quality and protect the health of local fish processors.

He reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to cleaner communities and stricter environmental compliance through technology-driven enforcement.
