Kogi Poly introduces new academic programs on agric production

By Abdullahi Lukman

To enhance food production and security in Nigeria, Kogi State Polytechnic has established four academic programs focused on agricultural development.

Professor Salisu Usman, the newly reappointed Rector of the institution, shared the news with journalists while beginning his second tenure in that capacity.

Professor Usman explained, “Recognizing the importance of agricultural training for the economy of Kogi State and Nigeria, we sought the approval of the state government to launch these programs.”

He added that the Governor approved the initiative, including the recruitment of lecturers and technologists for its launch.

The four new programs—National Diploma (ND) in Horticultural Technology, ND in Animal Health and Production Technology, ND in Agricultural Technology, and ND in Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering Technology—have all received full accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

This initiative is set to address the sector’s critical needs, promote sustainable development, and equip students with the skills and knowledge required to foster agricultural innovation and growth.
