Kebbi LGA distributes relief materials to flood victims
The Kalgo Local Government Area (LGA) of Kebbi on Monday distributed relief materials to 213 persons, who lost their property, including houses, to flood in the area.
The Chairman of council, Alhaji Shamsu Faruk-Kalgo, said that the gesture was to alleviate the sufferings of the victims in the three communities that were worse hit by the disaster.
Faruk-Kalgo said that over 800 houses, farmlands and properties in Kalgo, Kirishi and Badariya communities were destroyed by the flood.
“We urge people living along the river banks to evacuate to upland or government structures that have been provided for them,’’ he said.
He listed the relief items to include cement and roofing sheets to assist the victims, whose houses were completely destroyed by the flood.
“We are able to provide the items to the 213 victims from Kalgo, Kirishi and Badariya, which were hard hit and needed emergency assistance out of the 800 victims.
“We gave five bags of cement and a bundle of roofing sheet to each household,” Faruk-Kalgo said.
He commended Sen. Adamu Aliero, who donated N1.5 million to the victims, as well as Gov. Atiku Bagudu for his assistance.
He called on well-meaning indigenes of the state to emulate the kind gesture of the senator.
Also, Alhaji Bawa Kukah, representing Kalgo State Constituency in the state House of Assembly, promised that the house would find a way to provide succour to the victims of the incident.
Earlier, the District Heads of Kalgo and Diggi, Alhaji Haruna Bashar and Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, commended the council and state government for the gesture.
